Anandiben Patel, the first woman chief minister of Gujarat, and social entrepreneur Smt. Anarben Patel founded Gramshree in 1995. The Ahmedabad-based nonprofit has transformed the lives of thousands of women through skill development and livelihood opportunities.

A key feature that stood out for us was how Gramshree continues its support even after training is over.
Graduates get sewing machines and the necessary equipment that help them establish their own small businesses. Such an innovative method not only allows the women to practice what they learned but also gives them a chance to earn their livelihood through it.
Financial management, health, and personal development are also taken into account in their programs. It builds self-confidence in the women so that they can make decisions for themselves and their families.
Craftroots: Connecting Ahmedabad’s Artisans to the World
One of the key aspects of the mission statement of Gramshree becomes evident through the fair trade effort that the organization takes through its initiative “Craftroots.”
Craftroots offers a channel through which traditional craftwork is sold to customers from all over India and around the world through exhibitions and retail events, and some collections have even been exhibited at renowned platforms like the National Crafts Museum in New Delhi.
The effort creates an opportunity for the craftsmen to be fairly compensated for their efforts while preserving the legacy of traditional craftsmanship in Gujarat.
