The FIBA U18 Asia Cup is the biggest basketball tournament among men aged below 18 in Asia. This championship is taking place in Ahmedabad between August 13 and August 23, 2026. This championship is taking place for the 28th time, and it is of particular importance for India because it is hosting this championship only for the third time in its history. Last time, India hosted it back in 2004 in Bengaluru and even earlier in 1998 in Kolkata. Thus, indeed, Ahmedabad becomes a part of this list.
There is more than just pride involved in the tournament, though, since the four best teams participating will receive an opportunity to take part in the FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup 2027 in Pardubice, Czechia.
Where is it happening?
The whole action takes place at the EKA Arena by TransStadia, which is located near Kankaria Lake. There are sixteen national teams from Asia and Oceania who have participated in the tournament, divided into four groups of four, where four games will be played each day within six days from August 13 to August 18. The winning team of each group will qualify automatically to the quarter-final stages, while the second and third teams will face each other in the qualification match on August 20.
After that come the knock-out rounds: quarter-finals on 21st August, semi-finals on 22nd August, and the final match on 23rd August, where the tournament ends. The defending team of Australia wants to retain their championship by winning the 2024 edition of the tournament held in Jordan; but there are other teams like Iran, China, Philippines, New Zealand, and even India, which is hosting the tournament, that are also expected to put up tough competition.
Entry, tickets, and getting there
This is where it gets great because access to all of the matches is absolutely free. However, you will have to make sure that you book your seat beforehand, from the official site, because it is not a walk-in facility, and with four matches per day, seats are expected to fill quickly, especially during the knockout matches later on.
