7 Ahmedabad-Based Clothing & Lifestyle Brands
From heritage textiles to contemporary fashion, these Ahmedabad-based brands are putting the city on India’s fashion map.

Ahmedabad has always had a strong connection with festive fashion. Today, the city is also home to several homegrown labels gaining attention across India. From traditional textiles and bridal wear to sustainable fashion and lifestyle products, these brands showcase Ahmedabad’s creative side. Here are seven indigenous labels worth knowing.

1. Bandhej – The Label That Started It All

NID graduate Archana Shah founded Bandhej in 1981. She opened the first store in Ahmedabad in 1985, making Bandhej one of India’s earliest designer ethnic labels. The brand continues to design its collections at its Ahmedabad studio. Its artisans work with bandhani, block prints and hand embroidery. Bandhej collaborates with craftspeople from Kutch, Rajasthan and Benares.

Archana Shah has also authored a book on Kutch’s textile heritage. Today, visiting Bandhej has become a familiar part of Ahmedabad’s fashion scene.

2. Asopalav – Gujarat’s Bridal Powerhouse

Asopalav started as a small shop in Patan in 1968. The founders later moved the business to Ahmedabad in 1975.

The brand follows what it calls the “Honest Margin” philosophy. The idea focuses on offering luxury without an inflated price tag. Asopalav has become a familiar name for bridal lehengas and sarees across Gujarat.

The brand also has in-house lines such as Kallidorah and Resham Dhaga. Its presence now extends across Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Surat.

3. Tilla – Slow Fashion With a Global Following

Designer Aratrik Dev Varman founded Tilla in 2011. He trained at NID Ahmedabad and ENSAD Paris. His design approach focuses on slow fashion, handmade textiles and thoughtful craftsmanship.

Tilla also explores vintage upcycling and minimal-waste practices. The brand works with old fabrics to create new pieces while reducing textile waste. Its Ahmedabad studio in Paldi also houses a café. For bridal shoppers, Tilla offers a dedicated range called Lakshmi.

4. JadeBlue – The Menswear Brand PM Modi Trusts

JadeBlue’s story began with sixth-generation tailors Jitendra and Bipin Chauhan. The brothers opened a small Ahmedabad shop called SuprEEmo in 1981. They launched their ready-to-wear label D’peak Point in 1986. In 1995, they started JadeBlue with a 2,800 sq ft store on Dussehra.

The brand has since expanded significantly. According to JadeBlue, it now has more than 80 stores across over 40 cities. Bipin Chauhan has also styled PM Narendra Modi since 1989. JadeBlue played a major role in popularising the now-famous “Modi jacket”.

5. Riyaasat – Bridal Wear With Royal Detailing

Gaurang Galiya founded Riyaasat after growing up in a family of tailors. Although he initially trained as an engineer, he eventually returned to his family’s craft roots. Riyaasat opened its first Ahmedabad boutique in 2021. The brand expanded to Vadodara in 2022 and opened its flagship Mumbai store in 2025.

Its collections cover major wedding occasions, including Haldi, Mehendi and Sangeet. Women can choose from lehengas, sarees and Indo-Western outfits. The menswear range includes sherwanis, Jodhpuri suits and kurta sets. The brand has also announced plans to move towards an IPO in 2026.

6. Mitti Lifestyle – Slow Living, Ahmedabad Style

Located inside One42 on Bopal-Ambli Road, Mitti Lifestyle goes beyond clothing. The brand brings together fashion, homeware, food and a slower approach to everyday living. Mitti uses materials such as organic cotton, khadi and linen. It also works with natural dyes.

The in-house café adds another layer to the experience. Its menu features seasonal food inspired by traditional home cooking and grandmothers’ kitchens. The concept has also built a strong social media community, with more than 16,000 followers on Instagram.

7. Chhapa – A Familiar Name on Ahmedabad’s Fashion Streets

In Gujarati, “Chhapa” means “stamp” or “imprint”. The name reflects the brand’s focus on hand-block printing.

Interior design graduate Shipa Patel discovered hand-block printers in Deesa, near her native place. Their craft inspired her to start Chhapa in 2013 with her husband Hardik Patel and siblings Bimal and Sheetal.

The brand gives traditional printing a contemporary identity. Its designs feature playful motifs such as elephants, rickshaws and planets instead of conventional patterns. Chhapa works with sustainable cotton and khadi. It uses natural or azo-free dyes and ships its products to customers around the world from its Ahmedabad showroom.

Why These Brands Matter

These seven brands represent different sides of Ahmedabad’s fashion and lifestyle scene. Bandhej and Chhapa keep traditional textile techniques alive, while Tilla and Mitti bring a modern approach to sustainable living.

As Ahmedabad’s homegrown labels continue to reach audiences across India and beyond, they are putting the city firmly on the country’s fashion map.
